Flower Fix workshops create a unique team building experience for Denver companies.
In the corporate environment employees have to work with a variety of personalities. A business’ success can often depend on how well their staff members are able to co-operate across projects and everyday tasks. Team building activities go a long way to achieving better workplace relationships that then have a positive impact on company processes and goals.
Here are a few reasons to run team building activities for your business:
The collaborative nature of a team building challenge teaches people how to work together more effectively. It allows staff to see that everyone has different skills and approaches to a problem. This knowledge is then transferable to the office environment, as individuals understand how to make best use of each other’s gifts and abilities. According to the Houston Chronicle, the result is that work is often done more efficiently.
Clear and open communication is key to the success of projects and relationships within a company. Team building exercises can help to foster better communication skills in staff and develop their ability to co-operate well. In addition, the fun nature of team building activities allows employees to get know each other in a casual environment outside the office. This can go a long way to building trust between staff.
Keep employees motivated
Simply running a team building activity sends a message to your staff – you care about their success. Events designed to help them grow and develop new skills indicate that a company is committed to its employees. As a result, workers are likely to reciprocate this investment in them by investing in the business. They are more likely to take pride in their job and seek to achieve company goals. Team building activities can also help them feel motivated about their workplace in terms of the people they interact with. Because they’ve developed better, trusting relationships with colleagues, they are more likely to look forward to coming into the office.
Develop problem solving skills
Because team building exercises involves a simulated problem that must be solved, participants can feel like there is less pressure compared to when an issue comes up in the workplace that they need to deal with. They can then find ways to reach a goal despite hurdles, and feel more confident about their ability to do this. The problem solving skills they gain are ones that they can make use of in the corporate setting.
The advantages of team building activities include benefits for both individual employees and the company they work in.
A few weeks ago I was lucky to lead a very special team building floral design workshop. A local home builder was seeking an activity for its interior design team where they could come together outside the office and get creative in an entirely different way. A Flower Fix design workshop was the perfect fit. We decided to combine floral design with lunch and gathered at a local eatery.
These interior designers were as anxious to get to work as I was. Sitting with all the ingredients in front of them, they could hardly wait for instruction. And so it began. I spent a few minutes discussing how to properly cut and insert the botanicals into the prepared container. Most everyone in the group already had an amazing sense of design, knowing how to manipulate color, texture, and space. Now the trick with these interior designers was teaching them how to use these elements and interior design skills to create a floral arrangement.
Each student was super focused. As they began, you could feel the competitive tension in the air. However, with each flower placement, the students became a little more relaxed and carefree. They were more chatty with neighboring workmates and discussed what was working or not working for them. They built on each other’s successes and learned from other’s mistakes. I fielded very interesting questions about flower varieties, techniques, and additional design possibilities. The air was almost electric with creativity. Guests eating at the restaurant stopped to watch the designers hard at work. It was such a cool and festive atmosphere.
As a floral design instructor, this was such a fun workshop for me. I didn’t need to explain the basics on space, balance, or color combinations. I could jump right in to floral design techniques. One of my favorite things about teaching classes is watching students reinterpret a set design with their unique eye and design style. All nine students created gorgeous arrangements I would be proud to sell under the Flower Fix name. Everyone in the group left with a creative bouquet they were proud of and could enjoy in the days ahead. There was definitely a renewed lightness and excitement in the group. I imagine they carried this sense of accomplishment and creativity back to the office. I am hopeful everyone found renewed motivation, a more open communication line and tools to think about problem solving in a different way. An unanticipated side effect, however, is that I left invigorated by their passion and creativity, really looking forward to my next team building workshop.
